Blender being a free software means that it automatically has a low barrier to entry for beginners. The advantage that makes Blender better and why so many stick around with it is simply addons and plug-ins. This creates a healthy environment where people want to see the software succeed.

That's not cheating at all, being able to get exact measurements like that can be terribly convenient and efficient. Plus it helps take Scale out of the equation which allows you to focus on other things
