New, fantastic work by Nadine Müller-Klein, whose dedication to understanding pathogen-mediated balancing selection drove this effort forward! Great team effort all around -Image credit: Evi Zehntner #meerkats #MHC www.nature.com/articles/s41...

What an intriguing idea, #ESEB!
Another way to save CO2 emissions is to offer exclusively vegetarian and vegan food (like The British Ecological Society in their annual meetings) - system change is possible, @eseb.bsky.social

I would be super keen to help organise the meeting in Munich.

My husband and I were totally enamoured by our brief adventure as #duck parents this past weekend #wildlife #puns - they are all doing well and are in good hands with a wildlife specialist now

The moment you realise how incredibly well ducklings are camouflaged among grasses, when you captured 6 of 8 but spend 45 mins trying to locate the other two! Mother duck comes back and finds them in a minute!

This week started off with a little visit to the Villa Eberhardt. The ProTrainU department had organised a terrific and informative get-together for those young researchers who sucessfully applied for funding support in order to carve out their own research agenda. Thanks @uniulm.bsky.social

Not a bat, but still cool. Connie Rojas, Kevin Theis and @alice-risely.bsky.social and I figured out that, similar to meerkats, the gut microbiome of hyenas shows diurnal patterns academic.oup.com/jmammal/adva...
