Banner is the target used by The Archers; I am nothing if not a product of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.

There are four types of guys online. No exceptions.

It reminds me of Hannah McKays photo of Patsy Stevenson’s arrest at the Sarah Everard Vigil in London, back in 2021. Absolutely breathtaking.

I was actually in the online queue at the Disney store when this went live, but, alas, the price was too rich for my blood!

I’m old enough that the concept album has a place in my heart!

I saw the production a couple of weeks ago, it was (I’m Gen X - I have to say this) Most Excellent.

The set really is beautiful, it looks like polished wood & there’s lots of physical comedy biz with Didi, Gogo & Pozzo running up & sliding back down.

I want to go back to NY & see it again!

A Short Album About Love (1997)

Recorded live at Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London with accompaniment from The Brunel Ensemble. It’s a journey, it’s a gem. Utterly delightful.

Yes, legend has it that wee Buster stumbled onto the stage at the tender age of three & a rough house act was born.
BK soon realised that audiences laughed more if he kept a straight face, which he took into his adult career. Though he does smile in a few of the Arbuckle/Keaton shorts. 🙂

This was brilliantly written & immensely moving. Thank you.
If you’ve not previously come across it, you might be interested in Kevin Macdonald’s book about his grandfather, Emeric Pressburger. There’s a passage where Wilder & Pressburger meet in London & discuss their shared survivor’s guilt. 💔

And to complete that trifecta. 💔

The Nebari authorities definitely had an opinion on that, but she’s still fabulous.

Love her so much I named one of my cats after her!

Next time you watch it, Jimmy D, try and keep track of the bags!

Lovely Mark Ryan! Not sure about “spy”, but he was definitely in the Territorial Army for years.

The tarot deck & song ‘n’ dance stuff is true.

What perfect album came out when you were sixteen?

Villette, Charlotte Brontë.

Emeric won an Oscar for best original screenplay & the script was used by the academy/ studios*, for years, as exemplary film writing.

Now you have to watch the flipped version of the story: One of Our Aircraft Is Missing (1942)!

*I have to check my Pressburger book for the deets.

My 8-year-old self's #Letterboxd top 4

(I watched lots of BBC2 Saturday Matinees in the 70s. And, though I am an old, I’d like to point out that I saw Poppins on re-release, not on original release!)

How about a double-bill of love facing down supernatural interference.
