I see. It does help it stand out a bit more from the keys and rupees at least.
If it feels like it takes up too much space in general still, maybe using a different color for the time's display could help instead? Maybe the olive green/beige that the brackets for the X,Y, and A items use?

This is very cool as an option, though the way it's positioned, and displayed, it almost looks more like a spendable resource than just the current time.
Not the worst thing ever, but it reads a little weird like that. Would there be enough room to show minutes next to the hour with a : between?
