im sure amazon has their own SLAs and penalties and engineering team too. most service providers have specific contracts for major clients and they are likely prioritised over the public facing services.

i dont rly see how you're gonna end up with less downtime or overhead by self hosting. average CTO has done the math and accounted for this. i like and prefer self hosted solutions, but it's not like downtime is assumed to never happen in either case
