I have no patience for the blocky type that outlines the edge of each stitch, but I do think this looser stroke style can be fun!

Seriously though, it totally depends on the design. Some are designed without backstitch in mind, and I think adding it in that case is usually unnecessary. While pieces made with backstitch intended look more crisp and finished afterwards.
