I find it odd that an action hero archetype that is fine for so many beloved male action protagonist all of a sudden gets labeled unlikable when it's given to a female. I think the Devil May Cry fandom needs to reflect. Show is a good time. Solid 8/10

To take issues with a character's choices especially when they impact the hero is understandable. But that's the markers of a story properly building hurdles for our hero to climb. And the characterization of Lady anything other than complex shows a surface level understanding of character writing.

The dance between Dante and Lady's personalities is a source of joy, laughter, anxiety, and anger as the two constantly clash. By the end of the story Lady grows in some aspects but regresses in others, due to deep rooted trauma.

Lady's character archetype is one of a standard male protagonist circa 2000s. Think Marcus Phoenix of Gears of War. She is efficient, cutthroat, and vulgar. Throughout the season we see as her softer traits are brought to the surface by Dante's happy go lucky attitude.

The majority of "critiques" don't stem from issues with writing, pacing, or even animation, but an inherent dislike of the departure from the source material. Specifically, a very misogynist view of Lady. Criticisms range from "Lady isn't likable." to "the show focuses on Lady too much."
