Looking back I realize I never gave alt text for this fish!
If my diagrams are confusing (they are) I highly recommend reading the alt text, I worked really hard on it!

Some use their Electricity sensing feelers for balance while swimming while others keep them folded back against their body for better water resistance.
February 19, 2025 at 12:32 AM
they still retain the ability to push water at high speeds out of their gills and some species have gills positioned in a more "nose" like position so as to use this current to spook or reveal prey hiding in the sand. But generally the gills are on the 3rd segment.
February 19, 2025 at 12:28 AM
At this stage they are beginning to push the limit of their size, despite this hydrogen rich planet, hydrogen is still not as efficient as the rarer oxygen. So they must develop complex gill systems to get as much hydrogen out of the water as possible in order to reach these sizes (an inch at most).
February 19, 2025 at 12:19 AM
But now that they can see farther, both predator and prey begin an arms race of speed! Their "legs" develop into more complex fins and tails. Some start to have their fins widen and move to different orientations. The three ancestral legs becoming front fins, back fins, and a lobster-like tail.
February 19, 2025 at 12:11 AM
Soon this new sense also becomes wildly diversified, usually taking the form of two extra long feelers so the creature can pinpoint other life forms more easily.
February 19, 2025 at 12:02 AM
Some develop beaks so as to prey on their shelled cousins, and a new type of feeler is born: electricity sensing appendages! Since all life forms produce small amounts of electricity these life forms are able to sense other creatures at a distance.
February 18, 2025 at 11:55 PM
Most of these early forms are algae eaters of some sort. Soon the mouth becomes oriented towards the bottom. Faster forms also begin to develop swimming tails and many abandon being primarily water propelled (though the ability to push out bursts of water from their mouth remains)
February 18, 2025 at 11:48 PM
Some types however, evolve to be faster moving. Some duplicate their leg segment again so they now have a total of 6 "legs" connected by a thin membrane which they swim with.
February 18, 2025 at 11:41 PM
Being their main sense, their feelers quickly develop a lot of diversity. Some become long strands that float in the water around slower moving species. These also soon develop shells to hide their bodies in while their long feelers let them know when to hide.
February 18, 2025 at 11:34 PM
Some evolve to use water to propel themselves and so are able to start using their legs as feelers instead. They use these as their primary sense(they don't have eyes) and for directing food towards their mouth. Some even duplicate their "legs" and so have a set of feelers as well as a set of legs.
February 18, 2025 at 11:25 PM
Their ancestral body plane has 4 segments that start with a mouth/anus on the first segment, 3 legs on the second segment, gut/body on the 3rd segment, and the stomach/"tail" as the fourth segment.

I'm making aliens again!!
Read this thread if you want to hear my overly detailed biology/evolution ideas for a bunch of alien life forms that never get bigger than about an inch XD
