an impressive number of people have tried to use the computer to get out of the basic existential situation of being human over the last fifteen or twenty years and it keeps getting wilder to watch
Bezos, Zuck, et al have succeeded more wildly than they could ever have dreamed in monetary terms. But they’re still trying to win the games we set ourselves to consider our lives successful. And have judged that making epic moral compromises is the least worst route to this success.

Maybe I’m being too clever but to me (a pilot and engineer) there’s this sort of Societal Minsky Moment where we’ve had stability in certain sectors for so long we’ve become communally immune to imagining risk properly.
because we live in societies where nothing ever happens, there are now too many people thinking in bets (put sellers) and not enough people thinking like aviation or nuclear safety engineers
