Queer early childhood practitioner married to an Episcopal priest.
All of this takes place in the setting of Salem surrounded by Tarot and a coven of teens. Sometimes, witchy knowledge gives us a better understanding of the world and ourselves. I'm so grateful for that knowledge and connectivity to the spiritual world around us.

(Heads up, there is some teenaged bullying/homophobia in these pages.) 4/5

And its kinda cool to have a queer coming of age story that recognizes the whole messy mess of teen years. It's not just about coming out. This girl is out, she has had that first girlfriend experience but she's not comfortable in herself. 3/5

A teen girl who works in a touristy witch shop, figuring out what it means to be comfortable in herself and her queerness. It's very much a coming of age story about all of her struggles. Coming of age is messy! 2/5

I am thankful for all the people who have helped me hav a better understanding of myself over the years. I hope that we all find understanding of our identity along with the fortitude to live in the truest way that we can.

Georgia meets people along the way who are kind and educate her about all the ways it is okay to show up in the world. She has some messy encounters, she stumbles a bit. In the end, she is satisfied with how she has come to understand herself. 3/4

We witness her journey through the course of several months of her first year away from home. It resonated for me in that self-discovery and interrogation of identity that happened in the years and months before I came out. 2/4

We can thank Francis Perkins for a lot of the gains that FDR made in the social safety net that we currently have as well as labor laws.

I don't actually know but it was sounding all sorts of gay-dar alertsEven if she wasn't queer she was a general badass and you will be better off knowing just how badass she was! 5/6

Historians each have their methodology that is informed by their own biases and cultural norms. Our cultural norms and language has changed greatly over time but Ms. Perkins had what seems to me to be at least one lesbian relationship. 4/6

I learned that Francis Perkins existed because someone was telling me about a fictional portrayal of her that they read. I was fascinated! A woman in FDR's cabinet! I searched around and found this biography. It's hard to know exactly what historical figures' sexuality and gender identity was. 3/6

I really enjoy reading history. It's interesting to learn about the people who came before us, where some of our current norms came from, and how culture has changed over time. It's also just good to have a general idea about history. 2/6

She is connected by a friend to a girl who just moved to London who is willing to be her fake girlfriend for a family wedding. Spoiler: they fall for each other.

This is the energy we need right now!

In No Rings Attached, the main character is trying to get her family to quit asking her when she is going to find a nice girl and settle down. She is DONE with dating but doesn't want to deal with the drama of telling her family. 4/5

In "Looking for Her," the main character has just broken up with her girlfriend and needs a replacement to pretend to be the girlfriend during a trip home for the holidays. Spoiler: they fall for each other. It's a sweet story. 3/5

I am familiar with the trope of fake-dating as a way of staying in the closet and quieting family and friends who are forever wondering about your love-life. It's a quirk of life that I had just seen a movie with this same premise right before reading this book. 2/5
