And the appointed OT reading is "Israel demands a king, assuring God that it will go really well and that the king will definitely never abuse power at all"!

(Although I somewhat regretted it after reading a great sermon by Bernard of Clairvaux about how Mary contemplates, Martha manages and administrates, and Lazarus cleans things! Maybe he can be there if he's actually washing the dishes and letting Martha do more important work!)

That one predates me, so I actually don't know. The extent of my interference in that feast was kicking Lazarus out and letting the girls have their own day again!

I think it was intended to be v.6. (Give people 9 or 13 verses and there would be riots...Or, more realistically for Episcopalians, silent mutiny and just not doing all that!)

I impulse bought something I've never seen before, which turns out to be a kind of squash! Me: "what is this?" Farmer: "Not sure, but I'd sauté it. It gets soggy if you roast it." Me: "...okay, I'll take 2 of whatever it is!"

In general, I'm on team "don't treat the Trinity as though you just read an organizational theory textbook and now think every hypostasis needs a clear job on your org chart", but if I wanted to defend it I would probably lean more on the creedal language of "giver of life".

Also, I know you prefer not online, but you might like something like the certificate in Benedictine Spirituality at St. John's, which has a mix of online and short term summer classes: www.csbsju.edu/sot/academic...
I keep sending them Episcopalians, and people all seem to really like it.

3. And very generally, travel/exchange and language immersion courses. Specifics would depend totally on your own interests, but possibilities include different Anglican seminaries that take sabbatical guests, the Anglican Centre in Rome, St. George's College Jerusalem, etc.

In addition to what others have said, I would point out that canons often exist because people do bad things! For example, I know of a defrocked priest who has regularly represented himself as "retired" and offers to take services when he is traveling, and not everyone checks his story....

I should have planned this better, because I was in town for CDSP's graduation and could totally have crashed that service! But I did have great worship with St. Mark's in Berkeley and am now off to the airport...

The CALL program at CDSP is pretty good. It's online asynchronous, and very affordable at only $150 a course. (On the 2025-2026 list, I am teaching History of the Episcopal Church and History of Christian Monasticism...) cdsp.edu/call/online/

After watching obsessively for the white smoke, I was actually 10 minutes late in hearing about it, and this cuteness is why!

I am always more worried about the people who THINK they already know everything and resent being asked to do any formation!

AMEN! (His old 2006 bio said that he was "once called the greatest of all thinkers of the English church" (!) and I was like "....by WHOM? His mother?"

There seems to be a severe allergy to paring back the calendar or introducing more tiers of feasts, but I still think those are good ideas.

The process is pretty grassroots, with recommendations coming from dioceses and deputies. Those recently referred by General Convention are 2 white men, 2 white women, 1 Black man, 1 Native Hawaiian woman. This would be the time to be making proposals at the diocesan level for 2027.

I secretly think it would be fun to do a reverse Lent Madness to vote people OFF the calendar! It would certainly raise the stakes and be exciting...
