Viking find?!
The detector did not make a lot of noice for this one, but I still dug it.
It is a fragment of a gilded fibula of the Urnes or Ringerike type. Viking or early middle ages 1050-1100 AD. Delivered to the county archaeologist today and it went straight to the museum for conservation.

I found a 3000 yo axe!
While detecting on a new permission I found this bronze socketed axe. It is from the bronze age about 2500-3000 years ago. Delivered to the county archaeologist in Stavanger. Amazing to hold this object thinking about someone using it in that same spot a thousand years BC!

Sometimes we detectorists are just happy to help. Today I went out to a farm where a woman had lost her only car key while working with cattle in the field. Quite long grass, but as she had a clear idea of the most likely area, I found the keys quite quickly. Happy people, glad to help. 😊

A single silver plated tea spoon (marked 60GR NM) was the best find on my new permission this weekend. The land owner confirmed that they still had the same set at home and sent a pic of it. 😊

Sometimes in this hobby you get really excited for no good reason at all. 😅

Detected for 4 hours on new location farm in Jæren Rogaland Norway. Amazing weather, but few finds. A military button showing the Norwegian lion coat of arms and a simple buckle was all, besides scrap iron.

A search in lovely Mosterøy resulted in few finds besides scrap pieces of lead, 5 øre 1973-82, a water tap and this object that is probably part of a folding knife/pocket knife.

Nice search trip this Sunday. Only find was this keyhole, but got to see some great petroglyphs of slips on rock. My wife joined me for this search, so great company as well. 😊

This find might be part of a so called "gout belt" (NOR: "giktbelte"). This was used as treatment worn around the hips and on the skin in the 1800s and early 1900s. There is text on it possibly saying "ARSENIC" and CHATGPT says that such an "arsenic plate" was used for mediale purposes as well.

These two coins showed up hard to read, but it seems to be two samples of the "1 skilling danske" from 1771 and king Christian VII. The coin is often refered to as "lucky" due to the symmetri of 7's on both sides and as the "liquor shilling", due to the copper from stills being used to mint it.

The oldest coin I have detected so far! I found it in a farmers field near Stavanger this Saturday. It's a Swedish 1 öre from 1751-1768 King Adolf Fredrik. Quite a rare find around here.

New farm permission this weekend in the Stavanger area. I detected some nice coins, like this little silver one.
Norwegian 10 øre 1883, Oscar II.

A quite foggy search in Rennesøy today. Met a few lamas, but found very little. A button and some kind of metal tag besides the usual scrap metal.

Great search at the beautiful island of Rennesøy today. This is a hobby of patience, so after 4 hours the result was this little copper coin, a 1/2 Skilling 1840, King Carl Johan XIV.

A bit windy today, but found time for a short search in the surf with my detector and sand scoop. Not much luck though. A few Norwegian and Swedish coins from the 1970s.

Last summer this coin showed up on my metal detector in Norwegian waters. It is from Ukraine, hard beaten, but still with it's identity intact. 🇧🇻🇺🇦

The gold bracteats looks great after conservation at the Archaelogical Museum of Stavanger. Probably worn by an important woman 1500 years ago. Was it just hidden or sacrificed to the Norse gods?

I detected George Washington in Norway a year ago. It's a so called success token with his portrait and the words "Success to the United States" and 15 stars for the first 15 states in the USA. It could be as old as 1792-95.

An old Norwegian shilling from the field today. It reads "1 skilling species" and the king is "Carl Johan XIV". The year is not visible, but probably 1820-34.

In 2023 I detected a gold ring on a local farm, stamped: 18 carat, June 1835 and goldsmith Peter Arent Magnus. Turns out he emigrated to America in 1855, where he continued his work as a goldsmith until his death in 1874. Four initials in the ring has been linked to two possible women at the farm.

I detected this silver ring in the surf at a Norwegian beach last year.

Given world politics at the moment, it should probably be thrown in a volcano as soon as possible.

The second search of 2025 resulted in a few Norwegian coins. 5 øre 1932, 2 øre 1923 and 1 øre 1908. Found on Rennesøy with my Manticore and the M9 coil. A bit cold, but very nice day.

Time to relax. The Finnish immigrant in the family brought some great cultural influence to Norway. 🇧🇻🇫🇮😉
