Slacker 60-something, dipping my toe back into social media. Music, sewing, gardening, politics - how did I ever find the time to work?
A spice tin? We love our Indian one and keep it topped up and out on the work surface. Have also asked for a middle eastern one from Santa! www.spicekitchenuk.com/collections/...

Hi, thanks for asking but I'm afraid it's a no. I really hate vox pop/public opinion based programmes so this isn't for me. However, I'd love the BBC/programme makers to know that this is a fantastic series and very much appreciated by viewers like me. Thanks.

Strong agree! Seen way more space stuff than is normal (OH obsessed - though TBF we're both interested) and this had lots of clips and info which was new to us. Great series.

Ha - looks like I'm still on a cheap intro offer price but £13 a month for any of the magazines I'd otherwise buy and many of the papers I'd like is still decent value

Readly is excellent value for those publications it covers - no Times, FT but i, Independent, Guardian and many others. Only issue is that links to individual articles don't work - have to open the paper/mag and search, but all for ~£8 a month.

And I'll have a look at The Straight Story, thanks.

If you have access to Apple TV (our "3 months free with a new iPhone" is about to expire) you could try Drops of God. Sure, it's implausible tosh but the French/Japanese/wine industry setting is unusual enough to be engaging and the family drama all resolves properly in one series. Loved it!

Orford Ness - nature, history and eerie disintegration - what's not to love? The reason I joined the National Trust - I imagine my membership all goes to looking after the Ness.

A day trip to Llandudno was definitely the right call today 😎, only marred by a 40 min delay on the train back caused by some eejit actually parking on the level crossing at Deganwy 🙄!

And the Lutyens crypt is ginormous, and beautiful too - well worth a visit.

Recently installed that Merlin app on my phone - best use of technology ever! Although, the "oystercatchers" in my back garden were obviously well camouflaged 😄. Envious of your swallows 😻.

Spent 25 years commuting to Mcr on the N Wales line, joking that they'd build Platforms 15/16 after I retired. Now I've realised that they probably won't build them until after I've died! I'll never see them ... 😭 😂

I was interested in it within careers work, where admitting real ambitions/barriers and being challenged on them was often illuminating - and could be tough to do for introverted types. Wouldn't recommend as a solution for serious mental health issues though!

Wasn't there supposed to be a secretary who asked to continue to access ELIZA even though she knew it was automated? What can very helpful for some types of support is to be asked the right questions - the answers need to come from you anyway.

Not sure if/how many academics use all the general election leaflets on there but seems worthwhile preserving stuff from this consequential by-election.
May 5, 2025 at 2:57 PM
I'm in the constituency and kept all election materials which came through the door (will upload to Election Leaflets). Relatively little reference to immigration on Labour leaflets - mainly Labour delivery so far, NHS, local policing, worker's rights & introducing local candidate.

Apart from rock stars, where the bit about where their passion for music came from normally overshadows all the fame and fortune stuff?

Good luck with the search! I think my dad managed to get one volume when he went to the States for work, back in the 70's. I remember him being chuffed!

Sudden Proustian rush there - recognised it with just a glance. My dad was a big fan and had (I think) the whole set when I was growing up. It's probably still at home unless my Mum (who hated Bessie Smith) has got rid of it. Must put in a bid to inherit it!

My sister gets all the brownie points by not only watching it but also taking my Mum to Strictly Live. She's welcome to "top daughter" award as long as I'm allowed to mute the WhatsApp group on Strictly Saturday nights.
January 26, 2025 at 3:10 PM
Thankfully I've never managed to "get" Strictly (imagine watching for 20 years, jeez) but it would have made conversations with my Mum easier!

Haha - I'd still say that "I'm not a reality TV person" - apart from always watching Bake Off, Sewing Bee - oh and completely loving The Masked Singer (and not in any ironic, clever way). At least I know I'm deluded 🤷‍♀️

You mean I'll have to get rid of my lovely little "Christmas Glitter Shortbread" tin crammed full of (mostly) dead batteries? Just to stop the house burning down? Spoilsport! (thanks for the PSA 😱)

Really enjoyed that blog post Sara - a real insight into how and why your own career has developed the way it has (and like any good careers article, prompted me to reflect on my own path!)

Seriously, Duerr's, Manchester made - not the same as home made but I do love it (or maybe I just love the lids - I save all the jars/lids for other home made preserves).
