I don't know what to call it except shockingly stupid. And the Don't Tread on Me crowd is always surprised and furious when the fire department really won't save their house.

You joke, but we already have subscription-based fire service in some areas. People objected to the tax, so it's now optional. If you opt out and your house catches fire, the fire department will not respond.

Casseroles, bbq, whole hams...I didn't know there were places where this wasn't the norm! But I've mostly lived in the South and Midwest.

This has been my favorite book since junior year of high school. It's one of the few books I've ever re-read, and I've probably read it 6 times. It's thought-provoking, funny, and inspiring every time.

In a civilized society there would be recourse for great moral, legal, or financial wrongs. To avoid violence and vigilantism, the US is going to need to become a lot more civilized.

Just got my whole collection out of the attic for my kids not long ago. They had never seen a Far Side cartoon before, but they loved them.
