if you’re looking for a solid 2D soulslike metroidvania this delivers! Gloomy atmosphere, esoteric lore, fun/challenging bosses… rlly could have used a map tho. also def a game that wants you to match gear/strat to the encounter, which is fine until you’ve taken the wrong path up the skill tree orz

omg,, this game blew my mind. the base game has great environments & progression, but the meta puzzle mechanics are where it really shines. it was SO satisfying to piece together the true ending & I didn't even go as deep down the rabbit hole as some ppl. just... rlly clever & unique w/ its delivery

WOof. Well, I made it through 😂 I totally get why ppl love this game/it defined a genre, but I don't rlly have the patience/fortitude for clunky retro gameplay anymore. the lack of save points, the camera angles... augh. great vibes though + respect for how much thought went into the combat system

I debated whether to even include this… I bought the collection b/c it was on sale, but I’ve played them at least 4x each and what can I say that hasn’t already been said lol. classics for a reason! if you still haven’t played them by 2025 then what are you waiting for? Go say hi to my evil wife <3

so good!! rlly effective at building a sense of dread, even with its super retro artstyle (which I loved. some of those animations were *chefs kiss*). the simple gameplay worked & added to the tension (having to stand your ground to use the cross), & the sound design was likewise great/unsettling

I hate to say it but this was such a slog for me 😭 rlly enjoyed Athena and Blackquill! But the writing was hit/miss, I didn’t like the new gimmick & most of the cases didn’t hold my attention. also the handholding/railroading of investigations drove me up the wall- let me figure it out myself!

I hate to say it but this was such a slog for me 😭 rlly enjoyed Athena and Blackquill! But the writing was hit/miss, I didn’t like the new gimmick & most of the cases didn’t hold my attention. also the handholding/railroading of investigations drove me up the wall- let me figure it out myself!
this had good bones so it's too bad it was so rough around the edges/didn't live up to its potential 😔 loved the setting/vibes, but unforch the lvl design wasn't v strong (big con for a metroidvania), the bullet sponge enemies made things a slog + the main story was just a padded out fetch quest
