Substance use disorders are strongly associated with eating disorders, impacting up to 50% of individuals with EDs, a rate 5x higher than the general population. Similarly, among individuals with SUD, over 35% report having an ED. The two represent the 1st and 2nd deadliest of all mental illnesses.
