We were there last Friday. Yes it was originally mined for Albite. I got a nice Na plag. but also found a good Kspar but those are rare. The Albite are very pure and some I saw were big—maybe 1 m or more diameter. One student found a nice blue tourmaline. I found a very nice Lepidolite (7 cm)

Currently going through the department mineral collection, which is extensive but somewhat disorganized. Lots of institutional knowledge lost it seems—mineral/rock id keys being essentially nonexistent.

Look at this beauty

Well, #Topaz is currently lagging Kyanite. I gotta stick with my birthstone on this! #November. Topaz is a aluminosilicate (Al₂SiO₄(F, OH)₂) and is colorless (pure) but trace elements make it appear in stunning colors-purple being the rarest! #MinCup24 like this 1️⃣ from 🇧🇷

#Stibnite easily has this in the bag...Ancient Egyptian eyeliner...come on...antimony ore...psh...'what even is antimony?' you may ask, well, no one really knows...but it sounds awesome (if you can pronounce it correctly) #MinCup24 Also amazing crystal habit! mineralexpert.org/article/stib...
