Dad lessons I wished I learned sooner:
- Gutters are incredibly important for your home. 4" gutters probably aren't big enough. Clogged gutters are worse than no gutters.
- You get fit in the gym, you lose weight in the kitchen (and bar)
- Max out your HSA

My tech/devops weekly reminder: if you are investigating an incident then averages of metrics are not your friend.

Put another way, if you are trying to understand a "tail" event then looking at a measure of central tendency is a distraction.

My last thought as I drifted off to sleep last night: Meaning depends on memories, primarily memories we share with other people. When a loved one loses their ability to remember, we feel robbed of the meaning of our time together.

I suffer from a natural exuberance and it comes out in my writing in the form of excessive exclamation points. After forcing myself to stop doing that I find myself jealous of people who use them with reckless abandon. Exclaim away, brave soldiers!

I heard a great comment today from a product leader: the worst thing about agile is the name.
