In political philosophy, a central insight of (small-r) republicanism is that a kind master is still a master, and that relationship itself makes the subject unfree. Same with the ultrarich. Counting on them to put the interests of society before their own myopic interests is playing with fire.

Raised on some libertarian economics, sure, you can see how it makes sense to allow dynamic capitalism to produce great wealth, but then redistribute the gains afterward. But in the MAGA era we have seen the Epstein Class marshal their vast resources in defense of fascism and corruption.

Now conservatives are launching an effort to overturn Obergefell using the terms "biological sex" and "biological parent" to argue that marriage equality is unnatural and against biology.The same will be applied to women's roles, that working or going to school is against their "biological sex."

The idea that there are no protests in the US and no one is standing up to Trump is proving incredibly hard to kill over here in Germany. It’s become dogma, utterly detached from empirical reality.

I wonder if the people who keep talking like that understand they’re perpetuating regime propaganda.
