EARTHONE teams from UTH and ElGO DIMITRA carried out fieldwork on 13 November at two apple farms in Zagora. They seeded Lupinus and Hordeum, tested surface water collection for erosion studies, measured weed biomass and collected fallen leaves for analysis.

In October, #EARTHONE took part in the @re4green.bsky.social Social Lab Workshop at the @unibonn.bsky.social. The event explored urban and precision farming, vertical farming and the bioeconomy. It was an enriching experience that encouraged new perspectives and ideas.

The #EARTHONE pilot in Greece moves ahead. After a joint meeting between teams from the University of Thessaly and the Hellenic Agricultural Organisation ELGO DIMITRA, researchers will visit the pilot site on 6 Nov to sow legumes, measure distances, and collect soil samples.

Climate affects soil, water and vegetation. EARTHONE’s climate sensors measure temperature, humidity, wind, rainfall and solar radiation to monitor local conditions and their impact on emissions and natural sinks.

🌳 The #EARTHONE Pilot 3 in Italy explores how agroforestry enhances soil health, boosts carbon storage, and supports climate resilience. Poplar trees are intercropped with cereals, soybeans and maize to study soil quality, microbial activity, and emission reduction.

Vasileios Antoniadis (University of Thessaly) participated in #EUROSOIL2025 in Seville, presenting a poster based on #EARTHONE Pilot 2 on how land use change from forest to agriculture affects soil health in Greece. A great chance to engage with the soil science community and showcase our project.

To track land use and greenhouse gas emissions, #EARTHONE combines soil, vegetation and climate sensors into a continuous monitoring network. With IoT support, we gather real-time data to understand changes and protect natural sinks.
