Worth it? Granted, the whites had made the religious rift as wide as they had hoped, but after Aurangzeb and, as BJP ideologues would have you believe, a 1000 years of ‘occupation’, was there any hope of having an intact India? The point is, we need to take back the narrative from religious bigots.

How nice. I too consider it a life-long project. My hope for now is that after a few years I will be able to study Cato, Virgil and the likes of them, and get a nearly real feel of the lives and the ideas of the Romans.

In my language we still call it Holland, oblivious to these differences. I think the French do too. We imported the name.

As a compatriot of Rumi’s, I think we had too many Rumis and too few Cassius Dios and Polybiuses and Platos. Only one from my country that can be compared with these men is Baihaqi. Prose, not poetry, is what makes civilisations. I read Rumi and I can’t say whether he meant it or just exaggerated.

A poem in Persian by an Iranian poet of Qizilbash descent, whose family migrated to Iran from Afghanistan. He uses a lot of words that are only in use in Afghanistan. He was also a journalist and a translator. His style was heavily influenced by Federico Garcia Lorca, a Spanish poet of Franco era.

Oh, my bad. I am neither, but Pakistan is a very important country and should be the concern of all. The geopolitics of Pakistan affects all of Iran, Afghanistan, India and China. Punjabis, Pashtuns and Balochs all have similar populations across the borders of Pakistan. + PAK is nuclear and mighty.

The ambassador. He is an exile now, reviled by the generals. I think at one point he was accused of treason. He is almost unique in thinking about the affairs of our region with a modern perspective. Most of us are bogged down with lots of 1960s nonsense. How sad that his kind of people are rare.

It is shocking to me that there is almost no intellectual work done in Pakistan and the whole country is the Wild West for the extremists, and yet from time to time I notice Pakistani people talking as if they are the heart of European ANTIFA. You guys are too Eurocentric, bruh. Think East, Orient.
