The two keynotes were representative of our wide variety of topics, from land and maritime warfare to the boundaries of legitimacy surrounding early modern violence and the impact and representation of such violence in its various forms. All through a range of excellent panels!

We would like to thank our two keynote speakers, Mark Stoyle and Jo Esra. While Mark took us back to Civil War Exeter with a talk and guided walk along the city walls, Jo made us think about the emotional consequences of such violence by looking into the experiences of pirate captives ⚔️🏴‍☠️
