Josep Solves, journalist and professor at the Universidad Cardenal Herrera-CEU, concluded the session by sharing reflections on how transparency can be collectively improved, bringing together four different perspectives — from journalism, social sciences, patients and patients’ families.

Vera Glasser @mdc-berlin.bsky.social and Julia Biederlack, Einstein Center 3R Charité, shared two different institutional perspectives – but with similar goals and challenges – on communicating with the public about animal research and highlighted how transparent communication strengthens trust.

Susanna also publicly launched a new dynamic #NTS dashboard, released this morning by the EC, with a user-friendly navigation, accessible filters and language, and AI-based highlights.

(3/4) Klas Abelson, from the University of Copenhagen, highlighted how #refinement is always possible and how when it doesn’t eliminate pain or distress, it can alleviate it. He explored the main challenges in refinement and discussed solutions.

(2/4) Stefan Hippenstiel, from Charité 3R Center, highlighted how #communication shouldn’t set animal experiments and human models against each other stressing that honest communication must be a part of the strategy while looking for alternatives to animals.

(5/5) Andy Ridgway, from the University of West England, closed this session with a discussion on how journalists are using AI prompted by results from a survey on the topic conducted mainly in Brazil, India and the UK. #EARA2025
