It would be mad to assume there aren't other hard copies. And transcripts. And who knows what else in the hands of whom it matters. It would be like one of those Columbos where the murderer tries to get rid of incriminating evidence, but it's a duplicate that was planted there for the gotcha moment.

Nation loves 'space' as an adjective even more than the word 'system' the number of Space Everythings that are just like normal Anythings BUT IN SPACE. It's almost adorable until you get to 'space heaters' in Countdown.

- points lost for the 2D 'map' drawn on a plastic sheet though - but they have to choose whether to go around or through the 'meterorite storm' in Mission To Destiny. A four day flight would become sixteen, in all possible directions. I'm sorry, WHAT? The maths is complete bollocks of course...

Nor does he get his head around the vast three-dimensional nature of space. Twice in Series A, he has to put hazards in the ship's path to add delay urgency to the plot that are a big hailstorm and an uncharted 'here be dragons' whirlpool. The latter he can just about get away with in Breakdown -

...but once you know it, all the signs are there for you to recognise and feel hideously uncomfortable with the second time you watch it. And then it gets you thinking about the background, and the questions that pop up can only have more and more appalling answers.

In a nutshell, a civilisation that is so terminally online that they don't recognise the extinction event tailored made that only such a society could fall victim to. And it's set up and carried out precisely because of who they are and what they became, the twist ending is a slap to the face...
