Charlotte McConaghy writes heartbreaking eco fiction with a dystopian lean that will shake you up and spit you out, and I love her books so so much.

This semi-cozy, classic-mystery-style story is compelling, twisty, and amusing. A very fun weekend read by a promising debut author.

Illinois may not be paradise. The weather is brutal, pockets of radicals and racism still malinger, and taxes are high. But I have never been so proud of a polotician before. He is the only rich, white guy I trust with power. Kudos @govpritzker.illinois.gov and thank you!

Fantastic book! This is a great story to point to in the bear-vs-man in the woods query. Human trafficking seems to have deep roots in the indigenous communities in North America, and the author's note at the end gave some perspective. Loved the characters. Harrowing. Moving.

This is a wild, darkly comedic, meandering road trip story about a dying woman heading to kill her father, the people from her life she revisits, the connections she makes along the way, and how the universe laughs when we make plans.

Peter Swanson is one of my favorite thriller writers, and while this is less thriller-y, it's so very dark and disturbing. This author never disappoints.

Holy cow! This book! Cosby cranks up the heat (pun unintended) with those morally grey, violent anti-heroes he crafts so well. I will need time to recover from this one. And my favorite narrator!

OMG, JFC. This book! Racism, nationalism, LGBTQ, horror, pain, unhealthy love. This author knows men. How they can lack emotional intelligence, struggle with complications of good and bad, the narcissism, the loneliness - every character reminded me of a man I've known! So spot on! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Love that Spotify does audiobooks but the time is limited and it just cut off my book at 90% so I have to wait until it renews to find out how it ends. Hate. You cannot cut off a Riley Sager book's ending!!

A great discussion topic, and a moving, character-deiven story about the different shades of grief, depression, loss, and love. The connections broken and made were lovely.

Love this book series! So much fun! Badass women assassins in their 60s trying to settle down but their employers keep dragging them back in.

A well-paced mystery/thriller with good character development, and interesting plot facets involving old building renovations, rich misogynists, and historic homes for "wayward girls". The mother/teen daughter dynamic was particularly palpable and realistic.

Great horror, plays on your worst fear and dread, violent and tense. The message from the author at the end was moving and I eagerly await his future books.

A parton gifted this to me at a program yesterday and while I'm not sure how to take it, it makes me laugh.

Fantastic read, and maybe because it was read so beautifully by Marin Ireland it felt a lot like a Fredrik Backman story. Sad, tragic, ominous, redemptive, and full of love.

One of the best books about cannibalistic women and personality disorders (are there many?) I've encountered, some Hansel and Gretel inspiration, and so very dark.

Book 2 in the Antonia Scott series and I'm now ready to read everything the author has written! And Scott Brick brilliantly narrates the audio!

Beast of the North Woods is the third in the Monster Hunter series and this time Rhinelander, Wisconsin's beloved hodag may be a real live threat. I love this series! Cryptids and Wisconsin!

Finished the ARC of one of my favorite cozy authors, Carlene O'Connor, with #11 in the series, very easy to consume and such a great palate cleanser for readers of darker books or the news. This time it's a garden competition, and the puns are flying.

A historical imagining of the story behind the real last witch murdered in Scotland. Good book, no Witches, no magic, just women and misogyny.
