The city was separated from the county in 1870. The county was renamed "Arlington" in 1920.

? There was no Arlington in 1846. There was Alexandria County, covering the land that today makes up the portions of Arlington County and the City of Alexandria that fall within the original 10-mile square. The incorporated City of Alexandria was the southern tip of that.

I approve of the thought that went into providing alt text.

Can you clarify what this is about? Hasn't the EPA always have maintained, honestly and transparently, that contrails are just condensation, that they aren't evil, diabolical chemtrails? The web page published by the EPA says the same thing. What is it that Zeldin thinks he has changed here?

Finally. That's the way to do it.

"DHS, please give any operation that you're planning to raid 72 hours' notice before the raid. No? I didn't think so."

If it takes them 72 hours to hide all their misdeeds from an inspection visit, there must be a lot of suspect behavior going on.

Maybe I should rob some banks BEFORE the courts have a chance to weigh in on whether it's legal for me to do so.

If someone in government exercises their responsibilities under the law and defends the Constitution, and the Trump administration says that that undermines the President, it's a confession that the President is undermining the Constitution and the law.

I'm looking forward to seeing what studies they release regarding breast cancer that include only males in their study groups.

Ha, because trying to run Tesla and DOGE at the same time worked out so well for Musk. Rubio's failing upwards.

Well, good. He spent all his time focused on something that doesn't even have anything to do with that office: threatening the tax-exempt status of non-profit organizations. Better to have someone who at least knows what the job is and isn't.

I wonder how the dismantling of the Institute of Peace, which is not at all a part of the Executive branch, happened. I guess only Congress could prosecute the numerous counts of trespass. vandalism, and burglary and the forced dismissal of the staff--or maybe the employees could go to court?

I'm waiting till some judge, in a ruling against the Administration, states plainly that anyone who violates that ruling will personally be legally liable, that there is no "But my boss told me to" defense for breaking the law.

As far as I can tell, they're completely disregarding the National Archives and Records Act along with all information security laws. I'm waiting ...

The prototype for "conservative science" is the Catholic Church condemning Galileo for discovering four moons circling Jupiter (violating the dogma that the universe revolves around Earth), and would have been further exemplified by the Church contriving experiments to prove Galileo wrong.

My favorite is when several Trumpists rush to justify something or other that's he's said or done and give mutually inconsistent explanations, showing that none of them knows the real reason but also that they have no qualms about making things up rather than saying "I don't know, I'll find out."

These are the same sort of people who assume that any time there's a major conflict anywhere, the world waits anxiously for whoever's US President at the moment to fix it. The US has long suffered to varying degrees from main character syndrome, and Trumpland's strain of it is the most malignant.

This is confusing. The person they were SUPPOSED to kidnap, instead of the 11-year-old girl, was the 20-year-old woman they were supposed to be helping?

"... that she *is* reinstated": Wow, even the remnants of the subjunctive that had survived this far in English are disappearing. This would customary have been "that she be reinstated".
