I have seen this fort also described as a "Tiger Eye Fort"; however, I think it is actually Precambrian (2.5–1.8 billion years old) BIF (Banded Iron Formation) sedimentary rock w/ alternating “bands” of iron-rich minerals (hematite, magnetite) & silica-rich minerals (chert, jasper, quartz)

In the distance below are the graves of fallen soldiers from both sides are in the Memorial Garden at the base of the hill that can be seen as you drive up. Interestingly, there are headstones of Muslims, Christians and Jews all in the same location.
