Update to this, the fluffier Smilodon has been called S. populator by Darren Naish, so it’s likely a full-grown adult in contrast to the juvenile/subadult in the image below it.

The similar pattern to the darker, extra fluffy one (which is said to be S. populator) makes this look like a young populator, aided by it still having double sabers. But, the real confirmation comes from it being in an Araucaria forest. That has to be in southern South America.

Perhaps African Homotherium? From the material shown so far, it seems like we’ll be getting both Smilodon and Homotherium in multiple regions.
