This has been my biggest issue with Starfleet Academy so far, it’s been inconsistent with how its officers behave on duty, with them often being unprofessional like in Discovery

No not at all, it’s just The Burn and the shattered Federation that’s relevant
The show has background nods to previous series (e.g. the academy has a James T. Kirk wing) but narratively it’s been almost all new

- It’s… ok (It’s a show aimed at folk in their 20s made by folk who aren’t)
- Callback wise it’s been very light, other than following on from The Burn shown in Disco, but I suppose that’s the setting

How did you feel about Strange New Worlds S3?

I genuinely struggle to think of a way AI generation has been used to actually improve something.
All I can muster is Photoshop’s generative fill, one usage out if god knows how many.

The episode left me in genuine despair, it felt as if all characters and cultures from Trek were just used for cheap jokes. They couldn’t even settle on whether the crew were to be post-emotion-purge or not.

But then it’s followed by an episode I loved so the sour taste was quickly washed away.

Just to immediately swerve back into silliness and exaggeration, then to eventually turn back to grounded realism, and indeed is now headed back toward silliness
Though I must say the current era, not only in CoD, of sequels and throwbacks is beginning to wear thin

While its map won’t blow any minds, seeing environments I know so well recreated with an earnest attention to detail, resonates with me in an emotional way
I’m definitely being a bit dramatic, but my god playing it makes me feel giddy
