It's certainly a way to tell visitors your company thinks their privacy is an inconvenient privilege instead of a fundamental right. I've usually never heard of the site (and naturally don't plan on returning) when I see these.

I’ve noticed that lately. People rarely check their own assertions, even knowing research and verification are fundamental to the profession. You must be critical of your work and terminally curious: if you aren’t, you won’t know how much you don’t know. That’s an injury to yourself and the public.
