how in the world does this shit get IRB approval? I used to work in research, we had required annual training on human subject research, among other things, and informed consent was was the absolute bare minimum before even considering a study

Can only answer for myself, but: "sky follower bridge" was the tipping point. I was able to bring about 50% of my follows in so I wasn't starting from scratch. And of course the election, it's crystal clear that what's left of twitter is GOP / state-run media now.
