This is a really interesting theme. There's huge potential for good here, though the potential for disaster is also huge. I still grimace a bit whenever I hear AI associated with peer review. But I'm glad we're having these discussions now!

New research reveals significant gaps in AI content licensing among scholarly societies.

48% are exploring content licensing for AI training, yet many report feeling uninformed about decision-making processes.

Coordinated support needs to address this.

Peer Review Has Lost Its Human Face. So, What’s Next? - The Scholarly Kitchen
I think human-dependent peer review has lost its human element, thus its relevance, so what we can do to install a new system by abandoning the present one?

The lack of coordination between immigration policy and the realities of UK higher education is kind of alarming.
The UK government is proposing to finally finish off its universities by further tightening the terms of the graduate visa route. The stupid fools. Playing with dangers they don't even understand. www.ft.com/content/f441...

This is super interesting.

Social media, shortened attention spans and decline in reading seem to be to blame.

I wonder how this trend will develop in the era of generative AI.
NEW 🧵 Is human intelligence starting to decline?

Recent results from major international tests show that the average person’s capacity to process information, use reasoning and solve novel problems has been falling since around the mid 2010s

What should we make of this?
