Ok I am taking a break from socials because I’ve been feeling too much pressure. But Bluesky rn is a low stakes place to post so I wanna share this.

I teach poetry to 4th graders once a week. We did “color poems” and I had told them that my dog died last week.

Children are amazing.

My family’s dog died on Friday. Her name was Izzy.
Pikunii n dogs have shared our history since before stories could be told about them. We believe a dog will give their life to save their people.
A day later my traveling fam escaped a car wreck with nothing but some bruises.

Thank you Izzy. 💛🐾

Trying to write more honestly these days in regards to songwriting but it it always ends up in me crying my eyes out. How are we supposed to create art about the state of the world when all it does is bring you back to a state of grief?

Happy Valentines Day to my best friend, my most competent debate partner, my silliest pal, my sweetest boy. I love you over and over again.

Anybody that watched that fuck ass Snoop and Tom Brady commercial needs to go watch Two Distant Strangers. It’s been on Netflix forever you should’ve watched it by now.

Rage towards an oppressor is not the same rage of a racist. You should know that by now. If you don’t, you’re colonized.

Holy cow! I just went to Nickel Boys and I think it is an absolutely must-see for folks looking to learn up on reform/prison schools in the Jim Crow south.

That being said: HUGE TW for POC, particularly Black folks. The 1st person POV is relentless and claustrophobic and the abuse is so upsetting.

Important day to remember that native people aren’t mascots and as unimportant as the topic may seem to some the continued appropriation of native imagery in sports teams is a continued practice of dehumanization and colonization!

At my alt high school in Browning my math teacher loved chess and would let us play at the end of every period. I got really into it for a time (ended up being one of my bonding activities with my current partner) and I often ended up using the mentalities used in chess to support my poetry 1/-

Dealing with university bureaucracy and zoom mtgs while hoping the DOE doesn’t disappear overnight WHILE being reminded of the complacency of my hometown is an exhausting enough Tuesday on its own…but the universe saw it fit for me to hungry but crave nothing send prayers.

One lightness in the hellscape of the current events is that in every livestream video I’ve see of protests against ICE, I catch a native person singing away with their drum. We’re cousins across this land and I just think ndns are plum cool.

Just a reminder that now is time to grow a backbone if you ain’t got it yet. Conflict is uncomfortable, but it is on all of us that stand loudly and firmly in opposition to this oppressive cultural movement to confront those in our circles that perpetuate harm.

The first of my children’s books collection. Fry Bread written by Kevin Noble Maillard and illustrated by Juana Martinez-Neal.

My favorite part of this book beyond the cover pages listing the tribes on the land mass of America, is the diversity of people depicted. Tats, body shape, hair color.

Jaune Quick to See Smith was an indigenous artist that donated to the Missoula Art Museum and that donation started its Contemporary American Indian Art Gallery.

A true artist and I’m honored I was able to work in such proximity to her work at MAM during my time there.
RIP, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith

Some thing I’m going to start as I continue to reflect on the ongoing horrors of this new admin:

> gathering languages. I’m learning Blackfeet and Spanish at the moment
> read more.
> distribute and get in contact with artists. Leads to zine makers appreciated
> take school seriously
