Perhaps I’m just not communicating my point well. I’m not trying to die on any hill whatsoever and hope you review my other replies for more context. I just think Alec’s (correct) opinion and point was diminished by an unfortunate example, which lost people and caused unnecessary ✨discourse✨.

Don’t want to argue cyclically with one of my fav creators who I support and highly admire. But, FWIW, I don’t think you’re interpreting my replies in good-faith and I encourage you to read them again in their entirety. We don’t disagree at all.

It’s unfortunate that hyper-cost-optimized, shitty bulbs have given LEDs a bad name to the average consumer. I encourage you to try some of the new options like the Philips Ultra Definition line. They’re somewhat more expensive, but actually deliver on what makes LED bulbs good.

I’m honestly trying to have a constructive dialogue here based on my reading of the YouTube comments, including many who have gone into the robust testing they did given this one, very specific product. You’re totally right in general! This just happened to be an unfortunate example.

To be clear, your argument IS persuasive to me, I’m just concerned that your valid point will be disregarded by those less informed b/c of that oversight. Not trying to argue, and don’t want to get into a cyclical thing. Just hope you can understand my good-faith feedback. :)

I’m 100% in favor of using the appropriate designed bulb. It’s the right choice. But I think you’re getting pushback because people were turned off by you using the singular example that many, many people have excellent experience with.

Perhaps I’m not communicating well, b/c I think we’re in complete agreement! I agree with you 100%. I’m just providing constructive criticism that the particular example you chose to provide credence to your (correct) argument wasn’t the best, which made your argument less persuasive than normal.

I’d also be curious to see what you think about putting that bulb into your backup lights. It helped my backup camera visibility MASSIVELY, and was a significant safety improvement.

The regulatory environment around these drop-in replacements is the real issue. LED replacements can make a legitimate improvement to an (already effective) system, but the 99% of shit/illegal products makes them very difficult to widely recommend or sell.

As I said in another comment, that was a bad example because the correct version of that product *does* make a massive and noticeable difference in my vehicle. FWIW, I also bought it from Walmart. I appreciate your attention to detail, so I suppose this just threw me off guard.

Oh no, I don’t feel attacked whatsoever! :) I just think you’d find it interesting & I’m curious to see your results. I agree with your thesis completely - it’s a massive problem. That was just an unfortunate example to make a (good) point, and I think your point didn’t come across well b/c of that.

I totally respect where you’re coming from and your point in general - you’re absolutely right. Unfortunately, the product you happened to choose is one of the only ones on the market that is actually reasonably effective, IF you purchase the correct color. Not to be rude, but that was an oversight.

Hey Alec! Love your videos and your outlook on life - you’re a massive inspiration! I know you’ve gotten this a million times, but I encourage you to try the red version of that same Sylvania bulb. I have all the same concerns you do, but that one in particular is actually quite effective. Be well!
