On the left is probably Georges Marchais, future party leader, and on the right, the party leader at the time, Waldeck Rochet. Below, is a slightly later photo of Marchais.

Rest in peace Natalie Zemon Davis. Many know of her influential historical work. Her kindness and integrity is also legendary. I can personally attest to her encouragement of younger historians from conferences several decades ago. For me, she has always been a model academic - engaged and engaging
