We're also waiting for the administration to finalize the redefinition of "harm" within the ESA. Already went through the federal registry comment period, it'll mean that destroying endangered species habitat doesn't violate the ESA- only directly killing endangered species will

Yeah the scope is honestly the wildest thing about the shot- I don't know many folks that would take a 200 yard shot with that ratty thing

Another thought: angles mess with ballistics, or really our understanding of them. From an elevated position, compensation (DOPE) can get weird.
September 11, 2025 at 5:09 PM
Also 300 yards isn't a bonkers sight-in these days for plenty of western hunters or distance shooters...
September 11, 2025 at 5:22 AM
Why assume low? I'd assume missed high...could have been sighted in for 300 yards and took the closer shot without good range and dope
September 11, 2025 at 5:22 AM
Or he was aiming center mass and was sighted in for 300 yards (over compensated for bullet drop).

Most people who can shoot to 200 yards wouldn't default to a headshot, any hunter I know would go for vitals in general

Five is enough to either get the sale language stripped or kill the bill. I'll take it for now

This effort is a hugely broad coalition, includes critical Republican base voters, and is unwilling to negotiate or compromise. R's are breaking ranks, it can happen. This is a huge threat to his agenda right now because of how unified and diverse the pushback is. Take notes & capitalize on it.

Not just because it matters, but because this might stand the best chance of getting beaten. This admin has run roughshod over everything and has only gained momentum- but suddenly it's hit a quagmire than could cripple OBBB. If it doesn't, it'll prove a viable path and give hope keep fighting

All of that, plus Molly's gentle voice and narration style. Compared to more manic CZM podcasts, Molly can tell a story about scary weirdos while still imparting a sense of comfort and warmth in her tone. A top recommendation for sure

It's also got hunters and anglers across the country up in arms....a weird but hopefully beneficial unification of often disparate stakeholders....and it's likely going to be those folks that can apply pressure to the Republicans in the Senate who are in a position to do something about it

Unsurprising update on the SPD: theres now evidence of 40mm sponge being deployed as well as some bean bags being fired by the department, even though the chief was on the news last night swearing it was just inter gas and pepper balls. Nice trust foundation established with the public
June 13, 2025 at 4:39 AM
Begs the question- was the chief gaslighting, being pendantic, or intentionally obtuse when he explicitly stated they only used pepper balls and inert gas?
June 13, 2025 at 4:26 AM
Bingo. And to be clear, it's not even all Republicans since he likes talking to Shapiro and chasing silicon valley money
June 13, 2025 at 4:12 AM
Ah yes not tear gas, just a cloud of smokey gas and pepper balls that make tears, radically different intent obvsly

Also, I'd love the SPD to explain how intentionally releasing a smokescreen into a throng of people that obscures vision helps dissipate a crowd. Explain it to me like I'm five.

That's the thing though right- this was a smaller, tightly confined and pretty deeply covered protest. If you're going say something that can get fact checked easily and quickly in a small ecosystem like spokane, you better get it right unless you're just trying to gaslight people
June 12, 2025 at 6:04 AM
Photo evidence in the spokesman review of at least one person struck with likely a pepper ball went online at almost the same moment that the chief was explaining how they never shoot directly at the protestors 🤌
June 12, 2025 at 5:33 AM
I should update: the protest was peaceful, but also there was some light vandalism on ice vehicles....so still a totally reasonable response to initiate a downtown curfew and deploy cops from around the county to enforce
June 12, 2025 at 4:58 AM
Lifelong Democrat, dad of two and a veteran. This is a shameful abdication of leadership, especially in light of the curfew. You have a responsibility to protect your residents from state violence, not to facilitate it.
