It took me few years of nearly ignoring try/catch features before I eventually started to use it. Now I do fill all its parts and fill safe with the warnings, errors, etc in all cycles.

Earlier I used to convert the characters to the integers via as.integer(). Now, we're I asked, I would recommend not to do that, and use readr::parse_integer() instead.
