FY2026 cuts to #NIH proposed by Trump Admin would cause economic losses of $457M and nearly 2000 jobs in #Alabama. Biggest impact in AL-7 (D) and AL-6 (R)— where UAB centered.

A self-inflicted economic and scientific disaster.

My house smells like this fresh baked cheddar jalapeño sourdough.

I’m not sure we’re going to be able to wait until dinner.

This day was a sh*tshow. But I did manage to make a pile of fresh naan for dinner.

So there’s that.

I made a sourdough rye for the first time. I think it turned out great (even if it didn’t get much oven bounce).

I also learned that no one in my family likes rye…

Me, academic in a crimson state, reading the news:

"They have taken the Bridge and the Second Hall. We have barred the gates, but cannot hold them for long. The ground shakes...

Drums. Drums in the deep. We cannot get out. A Shadow moves in the dark...

We cannot get out...

They are coming."

In the days since TheFall™️, the 12-year old has made waffles for the family 4 times.

Doing this means we all sit down, together, to have breakfast. Coping with carbs & connection.

It makes me smile, but also makes me sad—for what lies ahead is uncertain for her & for us all. And she knows this.

By request for the 10 year olds’s birthday… a Gudetama cake.

I cope by gardening, baking, and making quick images because in an alternate universe I would be a political cartoonist.

Today, I give you the third variety.

Received word that my promotion to Full Professor has been approved. It's been a long journey—across three different institutions—but was only possible because of the support & encouragement of many teachers, mentors, collaborators, colleagues, & friends over the years.

Thank You All!

Spring in Alabama is the struggle to appreciate new blooms before a thunderstorm takes them out.

Luckily these irises survived the storms of this past week.
