how much of a cursed and conflicted global platform can be fixed using algorithmic culture silo-ing. like for it to be effective, the entire ecosystem needs to agree to use the system

My pds still works but most other things like my feeds my staticly hosted sites and other stuff routed through cloudflare is down

im sick and tired but i got plans like moderation for RD and how ill going to use an identical moderation configuration as bsky.app for reddwarf.app instance, and make it easy for alternative hosts to configure their own local context high context moderation

The public has better things to do than learning about decentralized protocols just to use an app. Nobody's demanding you learn about battery chemistry and kinetic energy before selling you a car.
It's OK to use language all your users will understand.

On Alternate Representations (AltR) i think maybe a simple list (like bsky user lists with a .list and .listitem) could work. Not sure on the ontology though, should AltR clients be allowed to pick a different rep that it can render automatically or should it be an explicit action done by the user?

and then use a distributed resolver called something like LegacyFS thatll be a collection of key-value mappings by potentially disputing nodes (normalized legacy identifier -> specific legacy identifier implementation) to have a web of non-consistent legacy imports to chose from
if it is the 2nd one, then i think it could work really well with something like this. it really isnt all that different from the "adversarial bridging" concept. it would just be a matter of how to resolve the did:legacy:{namespace}:{identifier} to the user pds/repo caching the data
hey i think non-approved "conceptual" did methods could work well for some niche use cases. like say i want to make did:fakeuser and like all it does is uhh resolve to a standard did:plc but the point here is that links in the social graph use the fake did method thus making the repo swappable

Is this real or a joke i cant tell
TIL that the Ethereum @devcon.org devconnect app is using AT Protocol to drive their event calendar for the events this week in Buenos Aires!

👀 Looks like all events are store in this repo:

the xslt that we need in atproto is for Alternate Representations (conversion between lexicons)

i highly recommend putting on a fast ticking timer sound with a medium-high energy looped song to get shit done and also if you really want to make it worse set a timer that auto resets every 20 minutes too on top yeah okay

I kinda want to make an ipfs atproto bridge so you can like p2p request atproto records or blobs hosted on pdses by CIDs from existing IPFS nodes or gateways wouldnt that be completely useless but funny
November 15, 2025 at 12:32 PM
Isnt the PDS blob storage system already an extension on top of the merkle tree, like git-lfs builds on top of git, so you dont store large files directly in the MST, so the real answer to the 100mb blob limit is that its a PDS issue and you should just increase / remove the limit for your own PDS

I dont believe in a nov 18 hl3 announcement. I think its probably gonna be the steam machine, controller, and frame price reveal and pre order

tempted to use my website's style and design for red dwarf but that means using gradients and shadows for elevation and thats not very material of me
November 12, 2025 at 4:39 PM
would it be useful to have a pds method specifically for bulk data imports that would be really bad for the firehose or would quickly use up the pds' daily rate limits but the bulk data import wont send individual deltas over the firehose and just sends a #sync event after its all done importing
November 11, 2025 at 2:38 PM
hmm xslt for atproto would be nice if it was self contained, composable, and swappable. but what about auth, each component should be able to do xrpc stuff without its own login modal
November 11, 2025 at 12:37 PM
i should probably write in the readme on how the material 3 components used in red dwarf works just so contributors can understand whats going on. but idk its weird the text input is css + <input> the switch, tabs are css + radix, the chips are tailwind + buttons, and buttons are all inconsistent

rinds died 3 days ago and im only now bothering to check on it and fix it
tangled.org/@whey.party/...
Maximum value of sequence »posts_id_seq« reached (2147483647) #1
id SERIAL PRIMARY KEY should probably be a bigint. rinds in production has already hit the limit after like ~a year with its current version of using ints

i get it guys ontology is a scary word but i promise its much better than schema overloading
then, AR will define the ontology between the two variants of the post, so that AR-aware clients can resolve whats best to render. And AR-aware clients can also understand that the two records are one of the same, and are just different representations of the same post

i have midterms but istg im going to write the alternate representations RFC
