U.S. democracy is dangling over the edge - that was already clear to me before I started reading "The Last American President: A Broken Man, a Corrupt Party, and a World on the Brink" by Thom Hartmann. But the book showed me that the situation is even starker than I had assumed.

"BGI 2025 involved a number of bold experiments. Some of these experiments paid off handsomely" - my latest Mindplex_AI article is a personal, selective, opinionated review of some of what made BGI 2025 sometimes so wonderful, and sometimes pretty frustrating magazine.mindplex.ai/post/five-of...

There's an important clause about "the dangers posed by rapid evolution of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)" in the latest press release from the Council of (former) Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly, UNCPGA. See section 4(d)

Many parts of the documentary drama "The Hack" will be hard to watch. But the remarkable true-life drama it contains deserves to widely watched and widely discussed. It contains many lessons regarding the vital role of a free press in society.

What's the world's most deadly addiction? Tobacco? Opioids? Junk food? Gambling? Doom-scrolling? Workaholism?

According to lawyer and psychiatry professor, James Kimmel, Jr., there's something far deadlier. That's as measured by the terrible impact it causes worldwide

"Here Comes the Sun" is a wonderful mix of grounded optimism and cautious realism. It's written by @billmckibben.bsky.social, who has been worried (with good reason) for 4 decades about risks of escalating global warming. But it surveys recent game-changing improvements in solar & wind tech.

There are lots of good topics and speakers on the agenda for Day 1 of "Biostasis in the UK" tomorrow (Saturday). The session I'm probably most anticipating is "An update on the legal aspects of cryonics with an emphasis on the new UK right-to-die legislation"
