U.S. immigration policy is ineffective and cruel. Fining employers $1 million per undocumented worker would eliminate illegal immigration. ICE raids satisfy the GOP base, not curb it. Trump’s deportation policies are less effective than Biden’s or Obama’s, but they create cruelty spectacles.
A lot of what happens as part of U.S. policy is a form of kabuki theater or pantomime as opposed to an attempt to solve problems. Take ICE as an example. If you really wanted to stop illegal immigration, just fine employers $1M per offense when they hire undocumented folks. It would stop overnight. ICE raids exist to satisfy the cruelty of the GOP base not as an attempt to curb illegal immigration. Trump doesn't even deport as many as Biden or Obama, he just creates spectacles of cruelty.
