not that it matters much (except for maybe 5 places in the country in total and only concerning private clinics, from what I've heard from people who actually lived in Russia in a way to be able to judge this) but which place was this, mate? Big city/regional med center or really out in the sticks?

one thing that always stuck with me: "you can't imagine how reliably consistant (read:common) an indicator for innerfamiliäre Gewalt kids abusing the family pets (aka mirroring actions from other family members, mostly parents) is - it's heartbreaking."

FWIW, I have talked about this phenomenon with several shrinks over the years and they are all in agreement on this. It also goes both ways - lower threshold for "positive" emotional interaction/projection, as well as negative aka abusing animals because you don't dare touch people in that way (yet)

unfortunately not. This practice (Third Pary Beneficial Contract) is amoral, perfidious+ belongs in the dustbin of history, but once was common for opportunists in Might Makes Right type situations: One prominent example(Read especially the section "Consequences"): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_....

Also a deep-seated security policy illiteracy on the part of the electorate, but us Krauts are the very last people who get to complain in that regard (pot, meet kettle).

I'm wondering how much of the distrust re: foreign/sec pol experts originates in the WMD lie the neocons used to kick off OIF.

The root of pretty much all the problems of our age in one sentence. Well done, Sir.

Only mildly disappointed it's not one of your Gen Kill quotes, but I'm grimly positive we'll be getting a lot of use for Colbert's "Those who can't kill will always subject to those who can" in the next few years.

I'm very sorry to hear you are in this position+ absolutely certain I'd be scaling walls, pulling my hair out+ grinding my teeth to dust were I in your place.

I'm genuinely wondering: is this - people like yourself (considering to) call it quits - exactly what they want to achieve by this measure?

bei mir in etwa die gleiche Anzahl wie "let's do the whole fucking village"s - ich glaube, die neutralisieren sich damit irgendwie gegenseitig - so "in every soul are two wolves and they are always fighting" style.

Mandatory, legally guaranteed vacation in GER(for example) is 20 days.
"Free health care" is financed by a level of taxes (paid by both, employer+employee) that would make most Yanks at least cry like little bitches, if not fly the Gadsden flag+grab their guns to topple the "tyrannical" government.

"Europe" is still 27 member states, all with differing-, at times vastly disparate policies, priorities and grievances. The only thing all 27 can agree on very often is combating "Brussles overreach" and "unacceptable curtailing of our national Sovereignty" - y'know: States' Rights.

And even when trying to make one up on the spot: "Einzelkämpferverklärung" sounds like the medical term for a vaguely military-related digestive disease, which doesn't make the whole thing very appealing.
Like the little cousin of Legionnaires' Disease, except with extra added constipation.
February 14, 2025 at 3:40 PM
Because, believe it or not, even the German language, with its wonderful composite nouns, has no equivalent term for "The Cult of the Operator".

From what we heard out of Washington today - what was said and how it was said both - RU likely thinks it's got this in the bag and will only have to weather maybe half a year, tops. According to Konstantin of Inside Russia, US sanction compliance supervision has already been stopped by the US gov.

I may be getting this mixed up, but doesn't this Friendship Train Russia does with various other nations from time to time usually involve a WWII-era steam locomotive, at least for the parts of the trip on RU gauge? If so: this might be their 1 current rolling stock engine least likely to break atm.
February 12, 2025 at 3:47 PM
In more ways than one, apparently: I read the article you kindly linked to, and the medical advice at the bottom (in RU->GER translation) boils down (no pun intended) to: "when the product didn't exit within 48 hours, try to move more and endeavor to drink clean drinking water as often as possible".

This is - surprisingly tame, disappointingly.
I was fully expecting them to have copied yet another asinine policy from the III. Reich: The 1938 Convention for the Assignation of First Names, which forced jews (and prohibited gentiles) to adop "clearly jewish" names from an approved list.
February 11, 2025 at 3:13 PM
Maybe they just invented the hand mixer?

You know, 150ish years after it was initially invented by a bunch of mostly Americans and Brits, concurrently, over the course of 20 years (I might be mixing this up with the origins of the blender, no pun intended)?

Technical marvels of the Russkiy Mir!

Karl Marx paraphrasing Hegel comes to mind: " all the great people and events in history appear twice - first as a tragedy, then as a farce."

we should send 'em some of those Spanish cattle - toros bravos. From what I've been told, the cows are even fiercer than the bulls: the fighting spirit of a good arena bull gets passed down through the female line, allegedly.
February 5, 2025 at 10:04 PM
earlier today I read that the Russkies are now employing donkeys at the front line, now you tell us there's cattle rustling in Kursk oblast - looks like we're going for the full-on Wild East experience.

absolutely love EVERYTHING about the new graphics, video, soundtrack.

You can never go wrong with Art Deco, as far as I'm concerned.

I'll start perfecting my Gin Rickey&Old Fashioned mixing skills in preparation for the big party celebrating the inevitable collapse of the RU economy. Hurry up RU!
