Big Z2 hit out at Amstel Gold Race sportive yesterday.

Fueled exceptionally well if I say so myself.

Still pretty hungry today.

Eating all the food in sight while seeing the pros attack the hills I rode yesterday :)

Learned about the Tour des Stations Everest Ultrafondo today.

Now THAT is a goal event.

257km with 9242 altitude meters.

Not for 2025.
Probably also not for 2026.
But 2027?
I’m game.

That’s long term planning! 🤘

Great evening to get out and move the body

Been a bit quiet on here, reason being a last minute invite to a 150km 2000m D+ cycling event in 2 weeks from now.

Doing a last minute tune-up week.

Wouldn't recommend this if you're just starting out, but after a lot of base training it can be powerful medicine.

Amstel Gold Race, here we come 😁

Cycle to the gym to cycle fast to proceed to cycle everywhere again.

Such is the life of a cyclist :)

Walking is your superpower.

1.5h run/walk into 3h walk for 4.5h of total movement today.

Time for food!

Hope you had as a good a day as I had :)

Thinking a lot about climbing this mystical mountain this summer.

Training will be at an all time high leading into it.

Can’t wait. 🚴

My absolute favorite session recently:

90 min with 12x 4 min 40-60 rpm at z3 watts with z1 warm up & cool down

That's all the intensity for the week.

- 90 min easy ride tomorrow.
- 2h ride on Saturday.
- 2h walk + 2.5h ride on Sunday

Training's goood 😊

I don’t want to make the cyclists on Bluesky jealous, but I found this route near my home:

120 km of cycling path—without a single car in sight.

That’s pure cycling bliss.

I hope your area has, or gets, such amazing infrastructure!

Zone 1 adventures, exploring on foot or by bike, are an epic way to build fitness.

Just head out there, bring enough water & snacks, and keep it easy enough (100-120/130 bpm)

With proper fueling, you can go for 3-5+ hours, cover some serious ground, and see some incredible places.

Woke up to this.

Great weather to run 15x200 meter.

Easy spin on the trainer later today.

Good day.

The health and fitness athlete's best friend — and one of the smartest investments you can make to dial in your training this year:

Lower mortality risk holds true across every age bracket.

This is why fitness matters: the higher your fitness, the lower your overall risk of death.

I would highly recommend reading it in full.
It's a good time investment.

The base building period is applicable to all endurance training. The specific period is specific to ice skating.

He did a LOT of cycling to get in shape for ice skating.

See for example 👇

I used it plenty in 2024, but I want to do even more of it in 2025:

The long hike.

An underrated way to build metabolic fitness & muscular endurance.

My goal for this year: 30–40 hikes of 20–30km+

Too easy for you? Add hills or a backpack!

P.s. when we're talking about heart rate zones, you want one of these:

1) Chest-strap HRM
2) Arm based HRM

The wrist-based heart rate from your sports watch isn't accurate enough.

Chest-strap is the most accurate, but I hear very good things about the Coros & Polar arm-based HRMs.

A one-day, human-powered adventure in nature is the best training session there is.

Keep your intensity low and make it a long, enjoyable day out 😊

Some of my (very) long-term athletic goals:

🚵‍♂️ Badlands Gravel Challenge (800km / 16k alt. gain)

🌋 GranGuanche Trail (900km / 20k alt. gain)

🏔 Atlas Mountain Race (1300km / 20k alt. gain)

First step: spend the next few years building the biggest aerobic base possible.

Getting fit

A piece on:

* What I mean when I talk about *fitness*
* What it takes to get fit
* The exact sessions I did to get fit
* How you can do it too

My first longer form piece of writing, I hope you'll like it.
