As to if they released it stand-alone it would have been better, as then it would be a game that could be bought and played this year.

No one wants to take away from SotE achievement, but it still is not a game released this year, it's an addon pack made with the same engine, assets and technology from Elden Ring. It deserves recognition, but many people want the main GOTY award to new games. We rly need an award for DLC/Expansion

Developers that have put years of development time into their game, to see an addon content pack to an existing game beating them out of even an nomination which I can imagen is a big deal for devs

No it should not. It is not a Game, it is additional content to an existing game. Doesn't matter that it's good or how many played it. There should be an award for best DLC/Expansion instead.

Pretty ugly look to have a DLC/Expansion nominated for GAME of the year - Wonder what devs. of other deserving titles think about this? Loosing out of even a nomination to add-on content till a game from 2022, and still won't be playable without said game from 2022.
