Pinot gris vine from Pelee Winery. Began in a styrofoam cup. This is the first year it’s been so fruitful.
A cluster of Pinot gris grapes on a vine growing against a south facing brick wall on our deck. Its first year bearing plentiful, full-size fruit. Usually the birds, squirrels and raccoons collect them.

Blue, a blue point Siamese, 15 years old, sitting in a sunny spot on the top of a cat condo positioned between two windows. His tail hangs elegantly, slightly lifted at the end (an indication of happiness, I think).

On a sunny day this sends little rainbows everywhere (because it rotates).
a little rainbow maker that sticks to a window with its suction cup. It’s clear so the gears inside are visible. Sunlight hitting the tiny top panel makes it rotate and the prisms below scatter little blips of rainbow on floor and walls. I’ve had one for years and it never fails to lift my spirits.

Sweater lover
Wendell, found by children at about two weeks of age, abandoned, was brought to a woman who operates from her home a shelter for about twenty cats. Wendell was called Wednesday by the children for the day he was found, and we modified it because it was so very confusing! He’s so perfectly cat-socialized! He spent a year there, happy, before we adopted him, and then spent three weeks being soothed and reassured while hiding under a bed. Now he’s perched on the body of a Hinterm Stein sweater, Perfect Edge, being knitted in a Miss Babs DK yarn in Cordovan colour. And yes, his left eye was already damaged when he was found. He’s seen eye specialists, who confirmed it was stable, but a dental surgeon believes his eye was affected by calicivirus and perhaps that’s why a feral mother abandoned him, thinking he couldn’t survive. He was bottle fed for weeks.

Ready to bisque
A plate, thrown on a wheel, decorated with deep cobalt blue and carved with lines radiating from a small centre circle to about a centimetre from the edge. Has a natural cream coloured clay rim and the lines cut through to the clay colour. When I glaze it will be a transparent green celadon.

Blue in the catnip box, a winter entertainment strategy. Blue isn’t sneering: it’s dental extractions and his upper lip catching. It’s sunny today and he’s a happy boy.
Blur, a 15-year-old blue point Siamese who has been with us for six years now. He’s sitting in a large clear plastic bin which has catnip scattered on its floor. It’s a winter toy which along with a series of Dollarama tunnels, will soon go in storage for a few months.

Asleep on the knitting, one is a finished cardigan and two are at different stages on the way to completion.
Cat asleep on the cardigan I draped over the chair and two partly complete ones, one plum coloured, the other two blue. There’s a cat toy draped over the top, brought by the cat, Wendell, as he pulled down the softest (20% yak). Wendell is a lively three year old, he’s a blue eyed, mostly white cat with beige and gray markings.

Togetherness. It’s taken two years of effort for Wendell to thaw Blue. Blue is 15 and Wendell 3. Wendell is innovative and so creative in finding ways to show Blue he wants to be close. He just rolls with rejection and discouragement. So open hearted.

In bottom left corner is part of a cat’s face. Wendell loves to be outside and he is sitting just outside the French doors examining the fresh snowy world. He’s been pushing himself through the snow to get from the back cat door (window height) to the front one at porch height. He’s a strong and determined cat with a thick coat and his couch surfing has time limits.

Our snowfall by Tuesday
More than a foot, 30 cm approximately, of snow had fallen on my car roof. My Fitbit showed 7,700 steps digging out just the end of the driveway. The icicle descending from the eaves is about a metre long.
