With a name fit for the Pirates, Jeff Parrett’s career took flight in MON. Without a single start, he finished enough games to earn 12 wins in 1988. Then Parrett mimicked those stats with PHI in 1989. His ERA was under 3.00 for both seasons.

I pulled this ordinary pitcher from my special baseball card binder to post on @junkcardboggs.bsky.social — my child self was convinced it would be worth something.
The first pitcher drafted in 1986, Greg Swindell hit the majors later that year. He won 18 games in 88 and was an all star in 89. Later, he won a World Series in Arizona (2001) and coached his alma mater to a 2005 college series victory.

The only thing between Modesto and Fresno is lots of farmland… and Steve Whitaker’s childhood. Whitaker was drafted by two NorCal teams: the 30th round by the A’s out of high school and 1st round by the Giants three years later.
