Now his role is similar to the high press where he can simply block the passing lane to the LB and allow the other liverpool players to press. This again leaves him in the optimal position to counter attack and be lethal going forward.

In the mid block, his role is also simplified.

He was still responsible for cover shadowing the #6 while also pressing the CB and trying to win possession. A lot of running and thinking out of possession.

This lead to his goals against United and Bournemouth this year, simply from receiving the ball freely outside the weak side CB

This leaves him with an easier role, and in an even better position to utilize his attacking power when Liverpool do recover possession

Now he is positioned outside the weak side CB with space to attack, when before he was right in front of the weak side CB. He can attack that free space outside

This year under Slot, his role is much more simple with less running and responsibility.

Against United and much this season, his role in the high press is to simply to block the passing lane to the LB. He isn't even responsible for pressing the CB, but only to help force play central.

When the ball is circulated back to the goalkeeper, Mo has to run back centrally to block the passing lane to the Brighton #6 again. It's a lot of running and thinking defensively.

Against Brentford, he's responsible for pressing and cover shadowing the LCB and LB. Lots of distance to cover.

Under Klopp last season, Mo had a more complicated and active role in the high press and mid block

From their game against Brighton, Mo was responsible for pressing the LCB while also marking Brighton's #6 in with his cover shadow (aka pressing while blocking the passing lane to another player)

I forget exactly what type of OOP approach bayern had last year, but if they had even more of a slightly complex approach than lets just go man to man across the field like Kompany and they have better results thats pretty funny

From a coaching perspective, if you want to play more a possession style to create and score goals but the team in reality scores most of their goals from counter attacks, would you consider that poor coaching?

Crazy how someone can be confused in the press when it’s man to man

What’s a good way to tell how far is too far? Is it coaching and testing the differences?

I’d be curious to know where most of his delivery or shots are coming from. Does he receive a lot of crosses or cutbacks from the left side?

A guy who gets a lot of progressive passes and progressive carries, they need to recreate him in the aggregate

@eliotmckinley.com Seeing some Columbus players on here with very low G+ values and also on the ASA tables (Farsi, Rossi), does their possession heavy play style that results in lots of backwards passes (maybe in their own half too) dramatically decrease their G+ numbers?

Tommy Redding was a beast, had incredible potential wasted
