Highlight of the week: 1912 #Sandeman. In exceptional condition (still a core of bright, sweet red fruit) and complex. Also, it is a privilege to drink history. This is the year that Robert Falcon Scott went to the South Pole & the disastrous maiden voyage of the Titanic.

Gosh, I love this old label of #Sauzet. Wine was beautiful too, more oxidative than expected (and no premox in sight). Lovely to see great people and have a few sips of great wine. It makes life perfect.

Fun with 2 Californian wines. In the battle of the Chardonnay, Aubert impressed early. After 2 hours Chanin rose from the ashes. Unanimous decision: Aubert for young-8 years. Chanin: at least 5 years but could age gracefully for 15+. Both Pinots impressive for different reasons.

Vega has always had a special place in my heart. Founded in 1864 with Bordeaux varietals because its owner had studied in Bordeaux before returning home. Not because of phylloxera. 2019 Valbuena was young but impressive. 2013 Vega was young but ethereal (that moment when power and elegance meet)
