Role playing as a game designer.
Multi-classed into the 'dad' archetype.
Today was blessedly easy, especially compare to the last few. As with all of these, there's a lot of room for improvement - I can only do so much in an hour or two - but it's good enough I'd use it in my home game. Not good enough for print (yet).

And the challenge is over. I'm going to sleep!
December 25, 2025 at 4:48 AM
I must admit, I'm exhausted and burned out. Really wanted to skip tonight, but it's the penultimate night of the challenge! I can't give up now.

Minimal effort in this one. I think it could be cool if each floor had a hazard analogous to real-world barriers to knowledge, but... I'm tired.
December 24, 2025 at 4:47 AM
Today was difficult. Kept getting very different ideas; dungeon in a giant hollow tree? Point crawl? Dice-drop area generator?

Eventually I realized I was way too tired for most of those, and just threw something together. I'm not pleased with it, but I'm practicing being OK with that.
December 23, 2025 at 4:53 AM
Another one that turned out pretty cool, and flowed fairly easily to boot! Aladdin was my favorite Disney movie as a kid, and I think it shows up in this little dungeon.

Tomorrow is Rumble in the Jungle! Maybe I'll listen to Jethro Tull at work tomorrow.
December 22, 2025 at 5:21 AM
Can't believe it took me this long to write about giant spiders. Strongly inspidered by an article about a gigantic colony of spiders that was published recently; link below. Had a lot of fun in my short time with this one, definitely another to come back to.

Tomorrow is Desert After Dinner.
December 21, 2025 at 5:15 AM
Rough couple of days at work, so I missed yesterday and kept it short today. Here's something I whipped up for a hex-crawl through a chilly, chilly place.

Tomorrow begins the last weekend of the challenge with "Isolated Incubator." I've missed a few days, but I'm hoping I can finish strong!
December 20, 2025 at 5:29 AM
Wasn't able to get to this yesterday, but here is today's adventure. Knocked this one out in about an hour; I'm getting some solid data regarding how much I can do in a limited amount of time. Looking forward to a longer project at the end of this!

Tomorrow is Scorched Earth Policy.
December 18, 2025 at 5:46 AM
Had some fun with surface-level worldbuilding in this one. Might steal some of my own ideas for home campaigns.

Side note, I make a lot of spelling mistakes when I'm tired. Really need to proof-read these.

Tomorrow is River City Ransom! No idea what I'm going to do for that yet, but we'll see.
December 16, 2025 at 5:02 AM
Another one I admittedly didn't put much effort into. I broke my toe yesterday, and that's been a bit distracting lol.

Regardless, tomorrow's prompt is Cyclopean Crypts. I randomized these prompts, but this ended up being a nice run of things that come (fairly) naturally to me.
December 15, 2025 at 5:23 AM
Now that I'm midway through the Advent(ure) Challenge, this would be a grand time to re-post my prompts calendar. It's not too late to join me!
December 13, 2025 at 11:09 PM
The baby took a well-timed nap, so I was able to knock this one out at a decent time of day! Rather pleased with the theme and motifs of this one. It's going on the 'return to later' stack.

Tomorrow's prompt is Alien Asteroids! Maybe I'll do a point-crawl this time.
December 13, 2025 at 11:08 PM
Another one bites the dust. I like these prompts that I put on the list specifically because they'd be easy for me lol. Got this one out in a little under an hour, not that I'm trying to rush anything. Once again unproofed and under-edited, but I'm doing what I have time for lol.
December 13, 2025 at 5:58 AM
I was honestly tempted to skip today again - my daughter got a bunch of shots at the doctor's office - but I buckled down and got something done. I haven't proofread it, and arguably haven't even finished it... but it's something, and sometimes that's everything.
December 12, 2025 at 5:33 AM
Had a lot of fun with today's prompt! I was thinking about Against the Black Priory, as well as Acceptance by Jeff VanderMeer. I write enough adventures about lighthouses, I should probably go out and visit them more often 😅

Tomorrow's prompt is Prometheus Compound! Might channel some Mothership.
December 10, 2025 at 4:57 AM
Inspiration returned! Fairly pleased with today's challenge. I spent a lot of it thinking about For The King. Let myself stray from the initial 'plan' and write up something other than a dungeon or adventure. Enjoy!

Tomorrow's prompt is "Coastal Glow."
December 9, 2025 at 4:39 AM
Another day with too little time. Also had a difficult time dredging up inspiration for this prompt. But I finished today's adventure regardless!

My hope is that tomorrow will afford me more time to work on adventures. I love my daughter to pieces, but she doesn't give me lunch breaks lol.
December 8, 2025 at 5:23 AM
I only had about an hour to work on this today, but I didn't want to miss two days in the first week of the challenge. I think this could have been really cool with more time; my first idea was to have several windows, each battle revealing a phrase of a riddle that led to the crypt below.
December 7, 2025 at 5:15 AM
I had a lot of fun writing this adventure! Channeled a bit of Over the Garden Wall, Annihilation (movie not book), and Soulframe.

This adventure is going on the top of my 'revisit and polish' pile, along with some of my Record of Lodoss War adventures.
December 6, 2025 at 5:03 AM
Day 3 is up. Had some difficulty finding time today, and inspiration was slow; but once I got started I quickly ran out of space. Tried out a new layout for 'maps.' I hate it! But it conveys information, and it didn't take too long.
December 4, 2025 at 5:56 AM
Anyone looking to their hand at writing an adventure every day until Christmas is welcome to join! You can use the prompts I came up with, or just do your own thing.
December 3, 2025 at 3:16 AM
Not as happy with today's result. The prompt gave me a bit of trouble, and I was experimenting with a new organization style. I think it suffers from a lack of formatting or art to make things 'pop' a bit.

Still, day 2 is complete! Time to start dreaming for tomorrow's prompt, "Marionette Maze."
December 3, 2025 at 3:15 AM
Rough start to the challenge, but I finished my first one-page Advent(ure)! Fun little witch's hollow... the mistletoe connection was entirely unintended.

You should absolutely follow @watchwellgames.com. I'll occasionally drop a note on Substack as I write these.

Quintessential Curios #1, the first zine from @watchwellgames.com, is live! It was a ton of fun to work on this, and there's some great content by amazing people (also me). It's 40% off until Sunday, so get it while it's hot off the digital presses!

Writing has been tough lately, so I'm hoping this challenge will get me back into doing something creative every day. Here's the little test I did to prove to myself it's doable! It took three days but... eh.

If you'd like to join, hop in the comments and let me know! Or don't, I'm not your boss.

For the Advent(ure) Challenge, I'll write one dungeon each day, on theme (listed in the pic), in a single 6x9 spread.

I struggle a lot with art, so maps are going to be minimalist; balancing encounters is time-consuming, so everything is system-neutral.

Can I do it? Who knows! I have a toddler!
