Actually a very liberal and sensible agenda if you amend the omissions: Leave the ECHR alone, Royal Navy in the channel (to help migrants in small boats), abolish the treasury. Where’s my id? I’m voting for that*

I ordered a copy last week. I eagerly await a text message from the bookshop to say that it has arrived.

I was too young for the poll tax but have paid council tax in various places. I live in Sweden now and pay “income tax”, I.e. according to my earnings, both locally and nationally - I think regionally, too. I have no idea why it’s not possible in the UK. Thanks for sharing your experience.

No, it’s the same amount regardless of earnings or wealth: “A poll tax, also known as head tax or capitation, is a tax levied as a fixed sum on every liable individual (typically every adult), without reference to income or resources.”

Fairer than a land value tax or council tax? I’d argue that progressive taxation is fairer and the poll tax was not progressive. This is in no way a defence of council tax, which is obviously very flawed.

I loved these books. The world he created was just amazing. Thank you for resurfacing that memory.

I think I used it to procure several high quality product teams from SMEs.

Thanks for the reminder to add some muted words - strange how they’re all surnames of older white men…

The legal system would require root and branch reform before we saw a fir sentence.

Yes exactly. I haven’t properly got into it, but my equivalent is customer interview transcripts - interviews I’ve done, sporadically, over several weeks and months. I’m the domain expert, I was there for all of the interviews, I’ve done some synthesis; but what might I have missed?

*it seems your solicitor was either bad or unprofessional, or both.

Here and elsewhere, it seems a well prompted language model might have some genuine utility with these “have I missed something in this mass of words?” use cases.

I’ve been following your story, Himal. First and foremost, I’m so pleased you avoided this considerable personal problem. But this seems to be a genuinely useful tool for the layperson. Not so much as a replacement for a good, professional* human with domain expertise; but certainly as a back-up.

Chiles is exactly who I thought of when I read that.

One of my team was very enthusiastic about sharing this with me, his PM, today. It is rather excellent.
